Building for Europe’s retail giant LIDL

Mitnija has built a logistics center for Lidl, one of Europe’s largest retail companies. The nearly 42,000-square-meter logistics and warehouse center near Kaunas is one of the largest logistics centers in Lithuania.

Of its total area, 12,500 sq. m are devoted to refrigerators meant for storing food products, while 1,200 sq. m are used for administrative facilities. We constructed the building, which required more than 2,000 tons of metal structures, in a mere 15 months.

Over 15,000 cubic meters of concrete, 2,150 metric tons of steel structures, over 350,000 meters of wires for various electrical installations and 140,000 meters of tubes for heating, freezing and venting systems were used. Mitnija workers mounted 12,000 sq. m of façade slabs and 12,000 sq. m of special internal partitions as well as 12,400 sq. m of ceiling structures in cold storage areas.

They equipped the Lidl logistics center with an environmentally friendly, cost-effective two-stage ammonia refrigeration system. At the peak of construction work, more than 250 Mitnija employees and subcontractors were working at the project site.

The Lidl logistics center built by Mitnija was the first industrial building in the Baltic countries to be certified by BREEAM In-Use for building sustainability, as well as to receive the BREEAM Excellent award.
